The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 27-bed critical care environment specializing in pre- and post-operative cardiac care, cardiomyopathies requiring mechanical circulatory support, and a wide range of critical cardiac and medical cases including:
- Post-MI cardiology
- IABP, Swan-Ganz catheterization
- CRRT, TTM, DKA
- Pacemakers, severe sepsis, and respiratory failure
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Director, or Executive Director, the Supervisor of Nursing - CICU provides leadership and coordination of care on the unit during the night shift. This includes oversight of clinical operations, staff management, and the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient patient care.
This role ensures optimal patient outcomes by acting as a resource and role model for the clinical team, and supports performance improvement initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities- Act as Charge Nurse or Supervisor during the night shift, ensuring staffing, workflow, and clinical quality.
- Coordinate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and leadership to support effective patient care delivery.
- Lead by example in the CICU, providing direct patient care when needed and mentoring clinical staff.
- Maintain standards for nursing practice, regulatory compliance, and patient safety.
- Monitor key performance indicators and support initiatives to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
- Participate in staff evaluations, scheduling, education, and onboarding of new nurses.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and adherence to protocols and policies.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to elevate care delivery and team performance.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- California Registered Nurse License (active upon hire)
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association - upon hire)
- Professional certification in a relevant specialty (upon hire)
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience in an acute care hospital setting (excluding clinical rotations)
- Charge Nurse or Relief Charge Nurse experience
- Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN or equivalent)
- Formal leadership experience in a critical care setting
- Strong clinical expertise in cardiovascular and medical critical care
- Proven leadership as an ICU Charge/Relief Charge Nurse
- Comfortable managing complex and critically ill patients
- Collaborative and proactive leadership style
