Registered Nurse (RN) – SICU (Full Time Night)
Location: Mission Viejo, California
Department: Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
Schedule: Full-Time | Night Shift (12-hour shifts)
The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is a 20-bed Critical Care Unit providing care for the most complex and critically ill patients. The Unit specializes in:
- Neurocritical care, traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and spinal cord injuries
- Complex trauma and surgical post-operative patients
- Medical intensive care including respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction
- Located within a Level II Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center
This role requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to respond rapidly to evolving patient needs in a high-acuity setting.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver direct patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity ICU environment
- Monitor, assess, and respond to changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement care plans
- Administer medications, manage advanced life-support equipment, and perform critical interventions
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
- Educate patients and families about care processes and recovery expectations
- Comply with all hospital, state, and federal policies and procedures
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License upon hire
- Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association) upon hire
- Current ACLS Certification (American Heart Association) upon hire
- Minimum 1 year recent ICU nursing experience in an acute care hospital (student/clinical hours not applicable)
- At least 1 year of recent SICU or ICU experience in an acute hospital setting
- Strong understanding of trauma, neurocritical care, and surgical patient management
- Comfortable working with ventilators, invasive monitoring, and high-risk medications
- Team-oriented with excellent communication and collaboration skills
