Bookmobile Driver & Outreach Coordinator (Spanish-preferred)
The Morristown & Morris Township Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented person to join our staff as Bookmobile Driver and Outreach Coordinator. The person in this position runs our bookmobile program for children: driving the bookmobile to community stops, circulating material from the bookmobile collection and conducting story times and activities with children. The person visits schools to sign up children with library cards and orders and processes new bookmobile collection material and supplies.
The position also involves community outreach with organized events including special school visits, Halloween Trunk or Treating, the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Diversity Day, the Hope Festival, and Fall Festival on the Green. There is also opportunity to work with children inside the Library, assisting with shelving and staffing in the Children’s Room, and collaborating with Department staff on crafts and programming.
The person assists the Assistant Director in planning and implementing seasonal bookmobile route schedules, bookmobile activities, outreach programs, and vehicle service and maintenance planning."
- Drive the bookmobile to community stops and circulate materials from the bookmobile collection.
- Conduct story times and activities with children during bookmobile visits.
- Visit schools to sign up children for library cards and assist with processing new materials and supplies for the bookmobile.
- Engage in community outreach through organized events (e.g., special school visits, festivals, and community programs).
- Assist with in-library activities in the Children’s Room, including shelving materials and supporting crafts and programming with Library staff.
- Assist the Assistant Director in planning and implementing seasonal bookmobile route schedules and related activities, and coordinate vehicle service and maintenance planning.
- Great customer service experience; bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Proficiency with software such as MS Office Suite, Google Suite, Canva; ability to adapt to multiple platforms.
- High school diploma required; some college coursework desirable.
- Past experience with children and in a library setting preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record; comfortable driving and parking an oversized vehicle; able to push book carts and lift books and boxes.
This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week that includes some evenings and weekends. The starting salary is $36,500. The position includes a pension plan (plus optional 403b), vacation benefits, sick time, personal days, holidays, health insurance coverage, and optional dental plan. There is a collaborative work environment with friendly co-workers.
