Children's Librarian-Part time

Overview

The Free Library of Monroe Township in Gloucester County seeks an entry-level energetic enthusiastic part-time Children’s Librarian that is dedicated to providing educational, professional, cultural and recreational information and services. The Monroe Library is a small to medium-sized library with a close-knit staff hoping to procure a creative, inspired and dedicated Children’s Librarian. The ideal candidate must be able to work with all age groups and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

A successful candidate will be proficient in utilizing standard reference materials and electronic resources as well as be able to assist users in using all types of technology including but not limited to PCs, tablets, e-books and social media.

• Develop and execute educational, inspiring and fun Children’s Services programming including weekly story times.
• Participate in the Summer Reading Program and corresponding activities.
• Develop community ties through outreach to local schools.
• Maintain the Children’s and Juvenile collections through acquisitions and weeding.
• Marketing and promotion of programs by writing and designing publicity including event flyers, promotional materials, signage, social media posts, and electronic newsletters.
• Cataloging using Sirsi Dynix Symphony Work Flows, with training provided. Duties include maintaining the catalog (add, delete, modify records) and attending consortium meetings as the library’s representative, staying abreast of system changes.

• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program and New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate are preferred. Consideration will be given to currently enrolled MLS students for the Information Assistant/Library Associate title.

This is a Civil Service position. Appointment will be provisional pending Civil Service procedures.

“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay

This position is a temporary part-time position with the potential to become permanent full-time. The position includes 21 hours per week.
