Part time - Librarian - ADULT & YOUNG ADULT - Ocean Public Library

The Ocean City Free Public Library is seeking an energetic, service-oriented librarian to provide services to adults and young adults. The candidate must be a team player who exhibits strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication, leadership, technical, project management and organizational skills are a must. Heavy interaction with patrons and a variety of assignments of considerable volume should be expected.

STATUS:
This position is a part-time, temporary position with a possibility of becoming permanent in accordance with performance and NJ Civil Service Guidelines.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Library or Information Sciences in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey College Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State University. Appointees will be required to possess and provide a valid certification as a Professional Librarian issued by Thomas Edison State University.

Possession of a valid NJ Driver’s License is required to perform the essential duties of the position.

SALARY/HOURS: $28 per hour. 21-28 hours per week. Hours include daytime, at least one (1) nighttime, and weekends. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include but are not limited to:

• Must Provide professional reference and reader’s advisory services in person, by phone, by email, and via Lib Chat.
• May Provide community outreach services including the composition of informational brochures and other related outlets promoting the Library
• Must Assist with circulation and instructional usage of reference materials including catalog, databases, and digital content services, reference materials and circulation
• May assist with development and curation of database access for internal and external usage
• Assist with teen and adult programming (including role playing games, video games, and board games) in group or one-on-one setting
• Participate in professional development opportunities and attend seminars, outreach events, and professional organizations to keep informed of current technology and emerging library service developments
• May be responsible for the opening and closing of the Library the facility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position.

Applicants must be able to speak, hear, and read to sufficiently have visual discrimination to be able to read spine labels. Must be able to push and/or pull up to 10lbs., sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to reach, stretch, bend at waist and knees, twist, push, pull, squat, or kneel. The physical demands described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
