Position Summary
The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership & Sustainability will provide academic math and reading tutoring support to local elementary and middle school campuses as part of the America Reads/America Counts Federal Work-Study Program (AR/AC Tutors). AR/AC Tutors will provide tutoring for assigned individuals or small groups in PK-8th grade regularly during the academic year. Students will be assigned to a tutor by the campus coordinator.
This position is funded by the Federal Work-Study program and is open to UIW students who are approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program.
Essential Functions
- Assist elementary & middle school grade-level students in academic tutoring in reading and mathematics.
- Assist students in preparing for reading and math examinations, assessments, quizzes, and academic projects to ensure the educational growth of the individual and/or small group(s) of students.
- Tutors may provide family literacy and/or mathematical activities in a family project/event environment that provides services to families with preschool-age children or children who are in elementary school through middle school.
- Review and support students with academic reading and math assignments and homework.
- Submit any required documents and reports promptly. This may include reports of attendance, participation, and subject matter related to students. Attend and participate in academic tutoring and other specialized training provided by the Ettling Center and the participating campus/school/district. When necessary and if applicable, use appropriate technology or academic tools to strengthen the teaching and learning process for the individual student and/or small group(s).
Provide a positive and supportive academic environment. Work with classroom instructional leaders, reading specialists, and school and district officials/administrators to provide academic lessons and appropriate accommodations to meet the learning style of each student and/or small group. The schedule of tutoring services will be coordinated through the campus liaison to ensure the needs of the campus and students are met;
general time frames for tutoring may range from Monday-Friday between 7:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Some evening and weekend tutoring times may be required. Partnering school campuses and/or districts may require a security background check. Communicate with all parties involved, including the school/campus liaison and the Ettling Center supervisor. Other duties as assigned. - Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge
Skills and Abilities
- Competent and able to tutor in math and reading at the elementary and/or middle school level. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to maintain the confidentiality and privacy of students and academic information.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Must be responsible and reliable in maintaining a consistent work schedule.
- Must be a positive and good role model for young children.
- Must be able to provide own transportation to/from campus assignment.
- The ability to speak and communicate in Spanish will be an asset, but is not required.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employees shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior work experience working with elementary and/or middle school aged students.
- Prior experience with tutoring K-8 academic reading and math.
- Prior experience in working with a non-profit or community based organization will be an asset.
