Instrument Calibration Scientist – ARRAKIHS Mission

Purpose
:
Lead the calibration efforts for the ARRAKIHS mission under the European Space Agency (ESA), ensuring the scientific accuracy of data collected by the instrument.

Key Responsibilities
  • Calibration Pipeline Development
    :
    Lead the design and implementation of the calibration pipeline for data processing.
  • Calibration Plan
    :
    Develop and execute a strategy addressing on-ground and in-flight calibration, including systematic effects.
  • Collaboration
    :
    Coordinate with ESA teams, detector characterization teams, and other calibration groups.
  • Performance Analysis
    :
    Support end-to-end performance assessments and optimizations.
  • Documentation
    :
    Ensure calibration processes are documented and compliant with ESA standards.
Requirements
  • Education
    :
    PhD in Astronomy, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience
    :
    At least 8 years in astronomical instrument calibration; experience in space missions is highly valued.
  • Skills
    :
    Expertise in calibration techniques, addressing systematic effects, and proficiency in data reduction pipelines.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    :
    Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Background in optical systems, detector technologies, and space instrumentation.
  • Experience in ESA projects or missions.
  • Proven track record in managing calibration plans for both ground-based and in-flight activities.
