Job purpose

The Mission Equipment Specialist is responsible for the operational oversight, technical authority and safe performance of offshore mission equipment across the Purus Group. This includes walk to work gangway systems, offshore cranes and all associated hydraulic, electrical and control systems. The role ensures that equipment remains safe, compliant and reliable through active monitoring, maintenance planning, documentation control and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Role
  • Provide day to day operational oversight of offshore mission systems during campaigns, working predominantly remotely with occasional attendance onboard.
  • Lead troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and PLC or HMI control faults and supervise emergency repairs to restore safe capability.
  • Conduct inspections, audits and preventive maintenance reviews in line with OEM and class requirements.
  • Maintain all technical documentation including maintenance plans, inspection records, deviation logs and statutory reports.
  • Act as the single technical point of contact for gangway and crane performance, including commissioning, fault finding and remedial action.
  • • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards, including LOLER, IMCA guidance, class rules, OEM regimes and site specific permits to work and HSE procedures.
  • Approve and quality assure lift plans, personnel transfer plans, motion envelope checks, go or no go sea state assessments and FAT or SAT documentation.
  • Liaise with vessel Masters, client representatives and suppliers, maintaining professional and effective communication.
  • Capture operational data, lead or support root cause investigations, develop engineering changes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend annual operating and capital budgets associated with mission equipment operations, maintenance, spares and investment planning.
  • Define and manage competency requirements for gangway technicians, crane operators and appointed persons, and arrange or deliver technical training.
  • Contribute to tender activities and pre-mobilisation reviews, ensuring technical deliverables and risks are clearly understood.
  • Track and report on KPIs including transfer success rate, down days, mean time between failure, safety events, planned maintenance completion and client feedback.
  • Prepare operational and technical reports to support fleet management and performance monitoring.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Degree or HND in Mechanical, Marine, Electrical or Hydraulic Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years offshore experience with clear leadership in walk to work gangway operations and offshore crane operations, plus a minimum of three years in a supervisory or technical lead role.
  • Offshore crane operator Stage 3 certification and crane supervisor or assessor qualifications.
  • Appointed Person or LEEA training desirable.
  • BOSIET or FOET and HUET desirable.
  • Hands on experience with Ampelmann, SMST, Uptime or similar gangway systems, and with major OEM knuckle boom, lattice boom and AHC cranes.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydroelectric systems, PLC diagnostics, HMI interfaces, condition monitoring and NDT awareness.
  • Good understanding of LOLER, IMCA guidance, class requirements and common client specifications.
  • Willing to respond to out of hours issues on weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
  • Able to think clearly under pressure and handle vessel related challenges with composure.
  • Resilient in a fast paced operational setting.
  • Frequent travel to the vessels and after-hours client engagements.
  • Professional, reliable and service minded in all interactions.
