The Communications Liaison is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing internal and external communications strategies for the Arctic Slope Community Foundation (ASCF). This role works closely with staff, partners, and community stakeholders to ensure transparent, timely, and effective communication that advances ASCF’s mission and strengthens community engagement. The Communications Liaison is central to promoting the Foundation’s programs, impact stories, and organizational values, while fostering relationships and increasing ASCF’s visibility across the Arctic Slope region.

Arctic Slope Community Foundation

Arctic Slope Community Foundation is a geographically based entity, tied to the Arctic Slope region, its eight communities and the people within those communities. The efforts of Arctic Slope Community Foundation are first directed toward raising a permanent charitable endowment consisting of an aggregation of funds from many different sources, both large and small. Second, the community foundation serves as grantmaker, where thoughtful consideration by local leaders to meet challenges and opportunities within the region.

Third, Arctic Slope Community Foundation is a champion for charitable organizations on the North Slope and leads initiatives in the true spirit of collaboration.

Description Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Communications Strategy & Implementation
    • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans that support ASCF’s strategic goals and programs.
    • Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all platforms and materials.
    • Create, edit, and distribute stories, press releases, reports, website content, and social media posts to engage diverse audiences.
  • 2. Stakeholder & Community Engagement
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, public relations, and community communications.
    • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, tribal and municipal leaders, and regional partners to amplify ASCF’s voice and impact.
    • Coordinate and participate in community events, public meetings, and outreach campaigns to strengthen engagement and trust.
  • 3. Content Development & Storytelling
    • Collect, write, and share compelling stories that highlight the impact of ASCF’s programs and initiatives.
    • Work with program staff and grantees to gather testimonials, photographs, and data that demonstrate community progress and needs.
  • 4. Digital Communications & Media Management
    • Manage ASCF’s website, social media accounts, and digital newsletters, ensuring content is current, culturally relevant, and accessible.
    • Monitor analytics and engagement, recommending adjustments to improve reach and effectiveness.
  • 5. Internal Communication & Support
    • Facilitate internal communications to keep staff and board members informed, aligned, and engaged.
    • Support the Development Department with communications for fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and grant reporting.
  • 6. Cultural Competence & Community Representation
    • Ensure all communications honor and reflect the traditions, languages, and values of Iñupiaq Arctic communities.
    • Promote the use of Iñupiaq values and perspectives in messaging and outreach.
  • 7. Other Duties
    • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by supporting cross-departmental  and responding to evolving communication needs.
    • Travel to all of the Arctic Slope villages to meet with leaders to gather information for major community needs.
  • Skills & Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in communications, public relations, journalism, nonprofit management, English, public affairs, or a related field.
    • At least 2 years of communications, public relations, or community engagement experience, preferably in a nonprofit or cross-cultural setting.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to tailor messaging for a variety of audiences.
    • Experience with digital communications platforms, social media management, and storytelling.
