Why this role matters

At
our client
, they are building machine learning technology that helps shipping companies cut fuel consumption and emissions at scale, solving one of the world’s most urgent climate challenges. Their platform is used directly by customers, and can also be easily embedded in partner products. By 2029, they aim to power 10,000 vessels – the equivalent of removing every single car from the roads in Belgium.

What you build will directly move that needle. You’ll be joining a young, smart, and ambitious team that’s willing to go the extra mile. If you want impact, autonomy, and deep ownership, they’d love to talk!

What you’ll do

They are looking for a hands‑on AI Engineer who lives and breathes LLMs and agents. Someone who can turn the latest AI capabilities into real product features that feel like “magic” to users. You don’t need to know our exact stack on day one, but you should be comfortable picking up new tools quickly and turning ideas into working systems.

  • Design, build, and ship agentic features end‑to‑end across Python/FastAPI, React and Azure.
  • Integrate the agent into real customer workflows and continuously improve its accuracy and usefulness.
  • Setup evaluation, monitoring, and guardrails for the agent, and rapidly bring relevant new LLM models, tools, and frameworks into production.
  • Shape the product. Collaborate with the team to understand real customer pain points and help design solutions, agentic or not, that make sense.
Your experience
  • Have strong hands‑on LLM experience. You’ve built features with LLMs in production. You understand prompting, RAG, tool calling and agentic patterns. You can reason about the involved trade‑offs.
  • You are a solid software engineer. You’re proficient with Python and git. You’re comfortable with frontend frameworks and have experience building and operating systems in the cloud. You write clean, maintainable and testable code.
  • Nice to have:
Experience with OpenAI’s APIs, retrieval and evaluation tooling. Maritime affinity is very welcome.
  • (Not sure you tick every box? Apply. They hire for trajectory and judgment.)
What makes you a great fit
  • You take initiative and ownership. You move projects forward without constant direction and care deeply about the quality and impact of what you build.
  • You’re driven by impact. Their mission is to cut emissions  want to apply your skills to tackle one of the world’s biggest climate challenges.
  • You learn quickly. You enjoy picking up new technologies, adapting to new contexts, and solving unfamiliar problems.
  • You think critically. You question assumptions, challenge the status‑quo, and propose better ways of doing things.
  • You’re a team player. You’re humble, collaborative, and put the team first.
  • You’re curious about the maritime world. Whether it’s ships, oceans, or global trade, you like the idea of working in a domain with massive sustainability impact.
  • You’re great at ping‑pong. They’re a startup, of course there’s ping‑pong 😉
How we work
  • Direct communication. You’ll talk directly with the people you work with – no layers in between.
  • Flat structure. Your ideas matter as much as anyone else’s.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration. You’ll work closely with researchers, business minds, and end users in a fast‑moving team.
  • Mission‑driven. Cutting emissions is what guides their priorities.
  • Fast iterations. They move quickly, test ideas often, and learn from real feedback to keep improving.
