Assume professional responsibility for providing learning experience in mariachi music and the performing arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitude, and knowledge to meet and exceed the objectives obtained by the Mariachi curriculum. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Mariachi Assistant work collaboratively with the Mariachi Director, administration and school staff.

• Associates Degree
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Must qualify for required paraprofessional certificate

• Minimum of one year as a Mariachi student, teaching or working with students in a music program.

• Possess experience teaching or performing as a Mariachi.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of music and have excellent experience in teaching and working with secondary aged students in a field of music in general, and mariachi music in particular.
• Demonstrate personal skills and creative talents in music, preferably proficiency with sting instruments.
• Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration and community.

• Will assist band director by working with small groups of students to reinforce and practice the following intricate skills in various musical sections. a) Trills b) Chromatics c) Overtone Series d) Major Scales e) Tone Productions
• Will assist band director in maintaining an accurate inventory of all equipment and seek to have equipment repair as needed.
• Will assist band director in maintaining accurate records of student’s grades, assignments and other documentation regarding various band activities.
• Will distribute and collect lesson materials as needed.
• Will encourage and motivate students to perform their best in solo and ensemble events.
• Assist in the overall supervision of students in the classroom, assemblies, field trips and emergency drills.
• Sets examples for students to follow in regard to positive standards of behavior.
• Exercises professional judgment in absence from work and is punctual at all times and places.
• Cooperates with other members of the faculty, staff and administration in meeting instructional goals, objectives and methods.
• Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, attending district in[1]services, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
• Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the LJISD safety program.
• Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
• Performs any other duties as may be required by band director and principal.
• Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
• Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.

Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stepping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking and/or standing

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct, maintain emotional control under stress.
