Position: Registered Nurse RN POOL MISSION

Responsibilities

A.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs the primary function of a professional nurse in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided to patients. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff and/or ancillary departments regarding patient care, concerns, and conflicts by identifying and assisting in the resolutions. This position will, during his/her shift operate without Unit Clerk, Respiratory Therapy, Stroke Team, OB Support, Code Blue support, Phlebotomy and House Supervisor.

FED Registered Nurses are responsible for, but not limited to Ventilator Management, Lab Draws including ABGs, placing phone calls and receiving/answering phone calls, paging on call resources, Responding/Activating Code Blue and Housekeeping as needed. Responsible and accountable for maintaining performance skills. This position summary contains the most relevant duties and responsibilities and does not exclude other assignments not mentioned. Position does work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, overtime, and/or on an on-call/call-back status.

A.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • a. RN Licensure in State of Texas
  • b. Require availability to work for one full weekend per month.
  • c. Require availability to work for one full holiday, recognized by STHS (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
  • d. Willingness to be cross trained to other unit areas.
  • e. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

D. EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

  • a. Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas, or part of a compact state license, or has a valid temporary RN license for the State of Texas while waiting to receive the permanent license.
  • b. Effective January 6, 2012, must possess an Associate-Degree, Baccalaureate Degree or Diploma from a School of Nursing or University. New graduate RNs in possession of a permit to practice in the State of Texas may provide documentation from their RN program validating their completion of nursing program requirements.
  • c. Applicants must have, obtain according to job description and thereafter maintain current certifications. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program (for any and all certifications applicable through the AHA program) – please check all that apply:
  • XBCLS/CPR – Must be current upon hire and thereafter
  • XACLS – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • XPALS – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • XNRP – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • XTNCC – TNCC required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire. If hired with a current certification, must keep certification current.
  • XCPI – Required for FED RN. RN with one year or less of experience – may obtain within 12 months of hire; RN with over one year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire.

d. Applicants must be familiar with basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the TX Nurse Practice Act.

e. Must pass the Medication Assessment within 3 months of coming to the department with a score of 90% or greater.
