Primary PurposeTo provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, and comfortable environment by maintaining the grounds of all district schools in a condition of safety, neatness, and aesthetic attractiveness.
Qualifications- Ability to speak, read, and write English at the 8th Grade Level.
- Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable.
- Ability to read and understand written instruction.
- Ability to operate yard maintenance and landscaping equipment (Tractor, riding and power mower, power tools, and hand tools).
- Ability to lift and carry 45 lbs. without assistance.
- Assist in propagating and cultivating gardens, plants, trees, shrubs, and grass; maintain lawns and playgrounds by mowing, edging, fertilizing, and seeding; collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.
- Help keep vehicle in safe operating condition; inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency; perform preventive maintenance as needed.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to maintain school properties.
- Learn proper safety procedures; follow safety regulations in the performance of duties; report accidents immediately.
- Work outside of regular assigned work schedule, including nights and/or weekends as requested.
- Ensure vehicles, equipment, and toolboxes are locked and secure when left unattended.
- Perform all duties safely to avoid injury to self or others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Shop equipment and tools: line markers, tractor and mower, riding and power mowers, all lawn equipment, ladder, garden and small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, sockets, pliers, crimpers, wire cutters, etc.), hand saws, power tools, drills, jacks, lift equipment, gas‑powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, and striping machine. Vehicle and related equipment: light van or truck, seat belts, shoulder harness, safety equipment (flared reflective signs), fire extinguisher, radio communication equipment.
WorkingConditions
Ability to concentrate, communicate effectively, handle several projects at the same time with frequent interruptions. Physical demands include lifting, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, repetitive hand motions, exposure to temperature extremes, humidity, noise, vibration, biological and chemical hazards, operating machinery, wet conditions, uneven surfaces, and prolonged or irregular hours.
