Siloam Mission is a Christian-based non-profit service organization for Manitobans who have experienced homelessness and who struggle with mental health issues, physical and cognitive disabilities, addictions, or trauma. Founded in 1987, the mission provides emergency shelter, meals and clothing, supportive housing, and a variety of healing, support, and recovery services to help people transform their own lives and reach their full potential.

To create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for others as well as working with and supervising volunteers and staff in the planning, preparation, service of, and clean-up of nutritious meals. This will keep our clients in good physical health in order that they may progress, transition, and seek their highest potential.

• Prioritize, organize and delegate tasks to volunteers;
• Plan, prepare, and serve meals in a timely manner;
• Ensure that proper sanitation, safety, and food regulations are followed;
• Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen;
• Receive donations of food items;
• Maintain a zero-waste kitchen, minimizing waste as much as possible and using donations to their fullest potential;
• Ensure kitchen staff and volunteers are following the City of Winnipeg health standards for meal preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and safety while providing nutritious meals in a timely manner to the community;
• Exemplify Siloam’s core values in all day-to-day activities.

• Safe Food Handling Certificate;
• 1-year experience in a commercial kitchen environment;
• Volunteer management experience is highly suggested.

• Works closely with Drop-In Staff, Volunteers, and Community Members from various departments of Siloam Mission.

• Hours of Work:
  Tuesday, Wednesday: 7 a.m.
  
  - 3:30 p.m., Thursday, 11:30 a.m.
  
  - 8 p.m. (24 hours per week)
• Location:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time;
• Working with food allergens;
• Ability to lift and carry weight up to 50 lbs.;
• Ability to work in a wide variety of temperature ranges;
• Will need to clean (sweep, mop, disinfect, etc.) work areas as needed;
• Ability to work with cleaning chemicals;
• Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members.

The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.

• Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
• Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
