About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Subject-matter experts create examples, assess model outputs, and define what accurate reasoning looks like so advanced systems can perform reliably in real-world situations.

In this role, your accounting knowledge will help train and evaluate AI agents on complex financial workflows. Your scenarios and scoring criteria will make model performance measurable, precise, and useful.

  • Work on cutting-edge AI development without leaving your accounting specialty.
  • Contribute to tasks that test numerical reasoning and financial decision-making.
  • Work remotely with flexible, task-based scheduling.
The Role

Open Train is seeking an Accounting Reconciliation AI Task Author to create expert-authored finance tasks for training and evaluating advanced AI agents. You will transform realistic enterprise accounting situations into numerically rigorous scenarios involving billing versus recognized revenue, payment-to-invoice matching, and margin report analysis.

Each task must be challenging at its intended level, objectively scorable, and grounded in realistic financial documents, data, and system states.

  • Role type:
    Flexible, task-based freelance contract
  • Work arrangement:
    Fully remote
  • Location:

Open to accounting and finance professionals across Canada
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • Compensation: $60-$120 per hour
  • Language:
    English
What You’ll Do
  • Author task prompts based on accounting reconciliation workflows, including payment matching, revenue reconciliation, and margin analysis.
  • Write rubrics defining exact numerical outcomes, required reasoning steps, reconciled balances, and acceptable variance explanations.
  • Set up realistic task environments using financial data, documents, and system states.
  • Solve each task to verify that its figures, workflow, and scoring criteria are correct.
  • Adjust data complexity, source-document ambiguity, and reasoning requirements to calibrate task difficulty.
  • Review and correct AI-drafted prompts or rubrics when provided.
Required Qualifications

This opportunity is listed at the entry level, but it requires hands-on accounting or finance analysis experience and the ability to work through detailed, multi-step reconciliation problems. Your work must be numerically precise and supported by clear, verifiable explanations.

  • Hands-on experience as an accountant, finance analyst, or in a closely related finance role.
  • Strong numerical reasoning and experience with multi-step reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition principles, payment matching rules, and standard accounting workflows.
  • Ability to define exact, verifiable correctness criteria using figures and documented explanations.
  • Comfort working with financial documents, spreadsheets, and accounting system outputs.
  • Ability to explain financial variances clearly and accurately.
Helpful Background

Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or enterprise B2B finance is useful. Familiarity with Net Suite, SAP, or Quick Books Enterprise can also help you create more authentic task environments.

  • CPA Canada or an equivalent designation
  • Experience in audit
  • Experience with financial controls
  • Experience in revenue assurance
  • Familiarity with ERP or enterprise accounting environments
Why Build Your AI Training Career

AI training and data-labeling work is a growing way to apply professional expertise to technology. Open Train gives you a place to discover relevant projects, show credible experience, and develop a durable portfolio instead of starting from scratch for every opportunity.

By authoring accounting tasks, you will directly influence how AI systems learn to reason through financial records, reconcile transactions, and explain their conclusions.

  • Apply your finance expertise to advanced AI development.
  • Choose flexible work that fits around your schedule.
  • Work fully remotely with a computer and internet connection.
  • Build experience in a rapidly expanding technology field.
