DIRECTOR, CORPORATE ACCOUNTING & CONTROL

A hands-on accounting leader who wants to know the business from top to bottom

Mississauga, Ontario|Full-time|Existing vacancy

Reports to:

Senior Director, Accounting

If you are the point others turn to when the accounting gets complicated, and you still want to understand how every important transaction moves through the business, this may be the role for you.

Greenhawk Equestrian Sport is Canada's leading equestrian retailer, with corporate and franchised stores, e-commerce operations, private-label brands and a growing United States business. Our accounting environment spans Canadian and U.S. entities, multi-currency transactions, importing, inventory, gift cards, real estate and several connected operating systems.

We are looking for an exceptionally proficient accounting leader who combines deep technical command with an operator's mindset. This is a Director-level role for someone who is comfortable setting standards and leading a team, but who never becomes too senior to investigate a reconciliation, trace a system issue or work through the correct accounting treatment.

What you will own
  • Close and reporting.Lead an accurate, disciplined monthly, quarterly and year-end close across multiple Canadian and U.S. entities, with fully supported balance-sheet accounts and clear management reporting.
  • Complex accounting.Resolve difficult accounting issues across inventory, revenue, intercompany activity, foreign exchange, importing, leases, tax, cash and controls, and document sound conclusions.
  • Inventory, retail and e-commerce.Understand inventory valuation, shrink, reserves, transfers, purchasing flows, store deposits, card clearing, margin and revenue from transaction level through the financial statements.
  • Importing and landed cost.Oversee accounting from foreign purchase order through receipt, including duty, brokerage, freight, tariffs, foreign currency and accurate landed-cost allocation.
  • Gift cards and customer liabilities.Ensure accurate accounting for issuance, redemption, deferred revenue, breakage, clearing and applicable Canadian and U.S. requirements.
  • Real estate and leases.Oversee lease accounting and the financial administration of Greenhawk's property portfolio, including rent, TMI or common‑area costs, escalations, deposits, inducements, capital projects and landlord reconciliations.
  • Controls, tax, audit and cash.Strengthen internal controls, coordinate auditors and advisers, oversee compliance, and maintain rigorous control over banking, payments, reconciliations, cash flow and working capital.
  • Systems and data integrity.Understand and reconcile the flow of information among ERP, POS, e-commerce, gift card, payroll and banking platforms, improving processes without losing control of the detail.
  • Team and business leadership.Build a capable, accountable team through clear standards, patient coaching and a genuine understanding of Greenhawk's stores, warehouse, importing, purchasing, franchising, e-commerce and real‑estate operations.
What you bring
  • Professional standing.A Canadian CPA designation, or a recognized equivalent supported by substantial Canadian accounting experience.
  • Senior experience. At least 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful responsibility as a Director of Accounting, Corporate Controller, Controller or comparable senior accounting leader.
  • Technical mastery.Deep command of full-cycle accounting, consolidations, internal controls, audit, tax, cash, inventory, revenue recognition and detailed balance‑sheet management.
  • Relevant operating complexity.Strong experience in a multi‑entity, multi‑location and inventory‑intensive environment;
Canadian and U.S. or other cross‑border experience is highly valued.
  • Extreme attention to detail. You investigate discrepancies fully. A reconciliation is not finished simply because it balances; you understand what is in it and whether it makes business sense.
  • Hands‑on judgment. You can move comfortably between reviewing financial statements, tracing transactions, improving a process, making a technical call and explaining the business impact.
  • Patient team leadership.You teach,…
