Job Summary
If supervising the activities of construction projects – from working drawings through to the end of the guarantee period – is among your strengths, consider joining the Design & Construction Department in the role of Project Manager. Reporting to the Manager of Design & Construction, the Project Manager reviews architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, landscape, site servicing and construction schedules, preliminary and tender drawings, specifications and tender documents, and ensures the timely, on‑budget completion of capital, renovation and renewal projects identified under the Board’s long term accommodation plan.

Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a leader who embraces accountability, human rights and equity in a highly visible role. You will bring progressive leadership experience managing construction projects from schematic design until completion, with deep knowledge of relevant construction documents and contracts. Candidates are required to possess a strong knowledge of building science, construction administration, construction budgets, specification documents, costing analysis and relevant regulatory codes (Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Electrical, etc.)
and standards. As Project Manager, you will prepare construction tenders, recommend acceptance of, or changes to, working drawings and specifications for assigned projects, and monitor the performance of architects, consultants and contractors to ensure adherence to standards and regulations. You will make on‑the‑spot decisions as required, demonstrate a proven track record of managing multiple projects concurrently, liaise with contractors, architects, government officials, school principals and other Board staff, manage hazardous materials, promote environmental health and safety, compile a comprehensive design history of external architects and consultants, research new construction concepts and systems, and develop and recommend standards and specifications for the design process.
You will also communicate with the Board solicitor on matters relating to the Ontario Construction Act and prepare reports for the Board of Trustees and its committees.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary degree/diploma in engineering or architecture with extensive experience in institutional/commercial buildings or an equivalent combination of relevant post‑secondary education and experience. Current certification as an engineer or architect, licensed to practice in Ontario, is an asset. Prior experience in managing school construction projects from design to post‑completion close‑out is preferred.
Minimum 5 years of related experience in progressively responsible positions and working knowledge of all related trade disciplines in construction.
Hands‑on project management experience essential; excellent skills in managing several concurrent new construction and building renovation projects.
Knowledge of relevant building codes, engineering standards and practices, health and safety legislation and Ministry of Labour standards.
Excellent technical, presentation, public engagement and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Understanding of building science and construction methodologies and materials.
Demonstrated coordination, project management, initiative, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Excellent budget management, organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.
Experience in site meetings to ensure work is performed according to contract documentation, and coordination with site administrators on project status and progress.
