Summer Mentor Newcomer Children

Position: Summer Mentor Role for Newcomer Children
Empower newcomer Chinese children this summer by becoming a mentor at Ralph Thornton Community Centre. This role focuses on literacy improvement and cultural integration through interactive learning.

Volunteers aged 15 and older are needed to support children in reading, writing, and comprehension, facilitating their adjustment to Canadian culture. This six-week commitment runs from July 6 to August 13, every Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. You will provide tailored, one-on-one assistance to enrich their educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Guide children in reading, writing, and pronunciation

• Help instill effective learning habits for academic success

• Conduct cultural activities and games to teach cultural insights

• Collaborate with students in a one-on-one mentoring approach

• Serve a minimum of one shift each week for six weeks

Requirements:

• Must be at least 15 years of age

• Strong desire to mentor and support learning

• Availability for the full duration of the program

• Comfortable working with diverse children

• Excellent communication skills
