Description of Course:
Urban centres are increasingly an important focal point for industrial innovation and economic development. Globalization, a recognition of the importance of innovation to economic prosperity, the interdependence between knowledge generation, learning, and proximity, and not least, the fragmentation of the innovation process itself, have all helped give rise to new understandings of how urban regions interact with, and support, knowledge-intensive economies.

The purpose of this course is to survey the literature on these issues and explore their implications for: the role of strategic management in planning and directing the economic development of city-regions; the role of economic governance in city-regions; and, the relationships that urban centres have with upper-levels of government.

Position

Description:

All normal duties related to the design, teaching and delivery of a University credit course including: weekly lectures. Meeting with student teams to guide/advise them on their assignments. Holding weekly office hours. Marking/evaluating all student assignments; recording student attendance; recording and submitting grades; and communicating with students on course related matters. Building and maintaining Quercus course shell. Design course syllabus, content and assignments in close consultation with Program Director.

Liaise with Program Director regarding course content and curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. (geography, planning, political science or related field) or MBA, preferred or relevant/equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience and demonstrated ability in teaching a similar course.

Salary (half course):
Minimum $9997.47 as per CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement (includes 4% vacation pay).
