Description: An introduction to the art and craft of writing for the stage. Through a variety of practical exercises, students will be encouraged to explore the unique properties of the theatrical environment. Topics for investigation will include general issues (such as language, plot structure, characterization, metaphor, and symbolism, etc.) as well as issues specific to the theatrical context (such as theatrical time and space, movement, engagement with an audience, relationship to other theatre practitioners, etc.).

The class will involve writing in and out of class, as well as exercises in effective and constructive critique of one another's work.

Salary

• SL1 - $19,994.95 per full course

• SL1 Long term - $21,398.43 per full course

• SL2 - $21,398.43 per full course

• SL2 –LT -$21,907.92 per full course

• SL3 - $21,907.92 per full course

• SL3 Long Term - $22,457.80 per full course

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. 

Duties:
All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, admin. and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising any TAs assigned to course, if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Published playwright with recent professional credits in Canadian theatre and a specialization in writing for performance (including film and television); evidence of currency in subject matter and demonstrated ability to mentor.
