The Assistant Vice Principal (AVP) supports the Vice Principal and Principal in managing the daily operations of a school, ensuring a safe, productive, and positive learning environment. This role is crucial in bridging the gap between teachers, students, and administration while helping to shape the school’s academic and disciplinary standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative Duties
- Assist in developing and implementing school policies and procedures.
- Manage student records, attendance, and scheduling.
- Oversee standardized testing and academic reporting.
- Coordinate with staff, parents, and district administrators.
- Enforce school rules and handle disciplinary actions.
- Mediate conflicts between students, teachers, or parents.
- Promote a positive school culture through behavior intervention programs.
- Academic Support & Supervision
- Assist in curriculum planning and teacher evaluations.
- Monitor classroom instruction and provide feedback to teachers.
- Support special education programs and student accommodations.
- Mentor and support teachers and staff.
- Help organize professional development workshops.
- Participate in hiring and performance reviews.
- Safety & Crisis Management
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Lead emergency preparedness drills (fire, lockdown, etc.).
- Address bullying, harassment, and other student welfare concerns.
- Community & Parent Relations
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
- Attend school events, meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Foster partnerships with community organizations.
- Qualifications & Skills:
- Master’s degree in Education Administration/Leadership or equivalent (highly preferred).
- 5-10teaching + leadership experience (e.g., department lead).
- Strong leadership and decision-making.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution.
- Organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education laws and regulations.
- Strong understanding of Ontario curriculum, assessment (e.g., Growing Success), and MAC Tarbiya Values.
