Position: Part-time Teaching Opportunities, French – Conversational Proficiency

Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) is looking for outstanding individuals to teach in our variety of French language training programs. These programs develop learners’ French language skills in an interactive and social setting. Learners will examine correct informal and formal forms of speech, distinguish proper use of grammatical verbs and pronouns, converse in everyday situations, develop self-confidence in speaking an alternate language, discover cultural components of the French language and culture, and perform presentations and debates with oral proficiency.

Using established curriculum, Sheridan’s CAPS instructors are responsible for maintaining an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Delivering existing course curriculum in the classroom and/or online in alignment with defined course objectives, pedagogical approach, and evaluation policies and procedures;
  • Setting clear and transparent expectations and instructions to students, providing student-centric academic support, and collaborating with CAPS Leadership, Support Staff, and Sheridan Student Services as required;
  • Implements active learning strategies and educational experiences using established best practices; updating Learning Management System (SLATE) course site and Master sites in collaboration with the CAPS team; utilizing CAPS and Sheridan resources and supports to continually advance and improve scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • Evaluating student progress/achievement and providing clear formative and summative feedback to students based on objective evaluation of students’ work using established benchmarks;
    Timely completion of Learning Management System gradebook details;
    Completing grade entry for official student records according to due dates;
  • Attending periodic CAPS and CE Instructor meetings and events; completing mandatory employee training;
    Compliance with all Sheridan Policies and Procedures.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Requirements
  • A degree, diploma, or equivalent postsecondary education in French, Education, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
  • Advanced or near-native proficiency in French, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the CEFR/CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and experience aligning language instruction with proficiency levels.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching French as a second/additional language, preferably to adult or postsecondary students.
  • Experience teaching across a range of proficiency levels, from beginner through advanced French.
  • Strong knowledge of French grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, conversation, and written communication.
  • Ability to create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment for students with diverse backgrounds and levels of French proficiency.
  • Experience implementing existing lessons, activities, assessments, and instructional materials to support established learning outcomes.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Comfort using learning management systems, virtual teaching platforms, and educational technology.
