POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Education Studies in the area of STEM Education. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have earned a PhD in Education or a related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Candidates must demonstrate a record of excellence in research and teaching in K-12 STEM pedagogy, hold at least one related degree in a STEM area, including biology, chemistry, math, physics, or general science, and have K-12 STEM classroom teaching experience. We also seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths and provide opportunities for intellectual connections across the department’s disciplines and areas of scholarship.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards; the submitted research statement; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements from referees.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, and strong letters of reference.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will teach in and contribute to the development and support of the undergraduate Education Studies program; courses could include Introduction to Education, STEM Education, Health and Education, Learning Design, or Equity and Diversity in Education. They will also hold a graduate appointment at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), with duties that involve supervising graduate students.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda, pursue innovative and independent research, and establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

In addition, the successful candidate will be assigned a service load that may encompass program development, curriculum planning, student engagement, and other contributions to the academic life of both units.

HIRING SALARY RANGE

The expected salary range is $130,000 - $165,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
