Job Description

The Intermediate Electrical Engineer will be a key member of a multidisciplinary design team, supporting the Project Manager and Senior Engineers in electrical design assignments. The role involves the creation of power distribution systems, instrumentation and controls designs, detailed calculations, and construction documentation for municipal and industrial infrastructure projects. Coordination with contractors, clients, and regulatory authorities is essential, as is mentoring junior staff.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Work within a multidisciplinary design team, supporting the Project Manager and Senior Engineers in delivering electrical design assignments.
  • Develop electrical power distribution system designs, including single‑line diagrams, site power layouts, motor control schematics, standby/emergency power systems, lighting layouts, and general power distribution plans.
  • Support the development of Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) designs for SCADA monitoring and control systems, including control panels, P&IDs, process control narratives, I/O lists, instrumentation selection, and communication network diagrams.
  • Prepare detailed designs, calculations, technical specifications, and contract documents for municipal infrastructure facilities.
  • Contribute to design reports, technical memoranda, cost estimates, tender documents, and construction drawings.
  • Participate in field investigations, site inspections, and condition assessments to support design and construction activities.
  • Perform shop drawing reviews and assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Support contract administration activities, including responding to RFIs, reviewing change orders, and monitoring construction progress for compliance with contract documents.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and internal project stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, EITs, and co‑op students as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for registration.
  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably in municipal water/wastewater or industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in detailed design, field coordination, and construction support.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements and applicable industry standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication and client‑facing skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
