IMAX is seeking a Senior Optoelectronics Designer/Engineer to play a key role in the research, development, validation, and continuous improvement of next-generation entertainment technologies.

This position is ideal for an experienced designer/engineer with a strong background in optoelectronics, optics, physics, engineering physics, applied physics, or photonics who thrives at the intersection of theoretical analysis and hands‑on product development.

As a senior member of the Systems Engineering team, you will lead projects and critical technical activities involving the development and validation of complex optical and optoelectronic systems, drive root cause investigations, contribute to product architecture and influence design decisions, and provide technical leadership across multiple engineering disciplines. Working closely with manufacturing, installation, service, procurement, and quality teams, you will help deliver innovative technologies that power the premium IMAX experience around the world.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside world‑class engineers and scientists on some of the most challenging problems in the cinema and entertainment technology industry while contributing directly to the development of groundbreaking visual technologies.

Research & Development

• Lead proof‑of‑concept testing and validation of optoelectronic technologies for current and future IMAX solutions
• Drive the development and enhancement of IMAX’s color calibration systems and software tools
• Develop and validate component‑level and system‑level performance metrics for optical and optoelectronic products
• Design and implement metrology, alignment, and calibration methodologies for complex optical assemblies
• Provide technical leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, from concept generation through validation and commercialization support
• Support requirements definition, technical reviews, and future R&D initiatives

Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering

• Lead technical investigations and root cause analysis of field failures and system performance issues
• Provide project‑level technical direction and mentor team members across relevant engineering disciplines
