JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Tax Analyst to join our Just Energy Tax Team. The Tax Analyst will have responsibilities over Canadian and US sales tax compliance processes and support on income tax projects as directed by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Prepare and file GST/HST, PST monthly commodity tax returns, gathering and reviewing supporting documentation to ensure documentation requirements are met and returns are filed in compliance with tax laws and procedures.
 Prepare US sales and use tax return working papers, gathering, and reviewing all supporting documentation.
 Assist with the preparation of supporting working papers for income tax filings
 Own the payment process for the Canadian sales tax returns ensuring payments are timely made and outstanding refunds are tracked, followed up on and summarized in a monthly update for senior management.
 Prepare monthly reconciliations of Canadian sales tax accounts to returns, government account statements and notices of assessments, analyzing and investigating all reconciling items.
 File and reconcile notices of assessments and tax notices with returns filed and follow up with relevant tax authorities on questions or information requested.
 Proactively support the management of Canadian sales tax audits and assessments by gathering supporting documentation in support of the audit process to ensure month-end files are complete.
 Actively support Supervisor by gathering supporting documentation, analyzing data, and drafting responses to Canadian tax authorities as part of tax audits or responding to CRA tax notices or queries.
 Work with Supervisor to understand and improve internal processes through automation.
 Compile the monthly cash tax forecast with inputs for indirect and direct tax payments and follow up with treasury on the status of payments.
 Prepare all direct and indirect tax payments including cheque requisitions as needed.
 Proactively monitor and prepare responses to messages received in the general tax email inbox to ensure correspondence received from tax authorities is addressed in a timely manner.

THIS ROLE MIGHT BE FOR YOU IF:

 You are working towards a Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent with a focus on accounting
 You have Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel
 Prior experience working on sales tax matters is an asset but not a requirement.
 You are a strong team player who will partner in the process and be proactive.
 You are a highly motivated self-starter and have demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement.
 You have and can demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
 You can communicate clearly, write well, and get along with others easily at all levels.
 You are extremely organized and great at managing your time.

Compensation
: $49,500.00 CAD
* This range reflects annual base pay.

Please note that the salary range provided is specific to Canada and is listed in accordance with Canadian legislation. It does not apply to similar roles based in the United States. US compensation will be discussed during the interview process. Compensation at Just Energy is based on market data specific to the location of the position.
