We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a high-performance project team dedicated to delivering construction projects in Greater Toronto Area.As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for providing project accounting leadership and support for these projects, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficient financial management. You will work closely with the project team, vendors, and clients to ensure timely and accurate invoicing, cost reconciliation, and financial reporting.
This position is open to candidates based in Mississauga office with occasional site visits.
Responsibilities
Oversee cost management activities, including cost reconciliation, analysis, and control measures.
Review and validate vendor and consultant invoices for compliance, accuracy, and appropriate cost allocation.
Manage cost codes and ensure costs are properly billed to the client in accordance with contract terms.
Prepare and submit timely and accurate cost-plus billings to the client, adhering to project terms and contractual requirements.
Resolve billing discrepancies and issues to facilitate quick turnaround time on necessary revisions.
Keep up to date with outstanding payments and outstanding cash collections, providing reporting and follow up as required.
Collaborate closely with the project team to gather relevant financial information and provide regular updates on project financial status.
Conduct regular cost reviews and reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies or variances.
Support accounts payable processes to enable timely processing invoices and payments.
Ensure accuracy and integrity of project-related financial records, including profit and loss (P&L) and operational balance sheet accounts.
Assist in the development and implementation of cost control measures and financial reporting systems.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to address financial inquiries and resolve billing-related issues.
Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to project stakeholders, including management and clients.
Assist in the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
Assist/liaise with auditor during annual audit.
Support the District Finance team in improvement initiatives and ad hoc assignments.
What We Are Looking For:
Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance or relevant work experience
CPA or other relevant professional designations considered an asset
4+ of relevant project accounting experience
In depth understanding of project accounting, project management, and project delivery formats
Advanced Excel proficiency, ability to work with complex formulae, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH functions, and arrays
Experience in Trimble Construction One, OnBase and InEight is an asset
Industrial and public company experience
Demonstrates a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives
Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, handle pressure, and meet challenges in a dynamic business environment
Ability to work within tight deadlines through prioritization of work to achieve them
