Job Description & How to Apply Below
About the Opportunity
Our client is a boutique investment management firm with a four-decade track record of delivering disciplined, long-term value investing across equity, fixed income, and balanced mandates. With over $4 billion in assets under management, they provide the agility and focus of a small, specialized team backed by the stability of a large institutional parent company. Their clients include pension plans, foundations, insurance companies, First Nation Trusts, and not-for-profit organizations that rely on their fiduciary discipline, personalized service, and strong governance practices.
The firm is deeply committed to responsible investing and sustainability, aligning its strategies with global best practices.
Your New Role
As Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, you will co-manage approximately $800M in Canadian fixed income assets on behalf of institutional and private clients. This is a succession-driven opportunity with a planned retirement, providing valuable overlap for training and knowledge transfer. You will be directly accountable for credit analysis, security selection, yield curve positioning, and duration management, ensuring portfolios deliver strong, risk-adjusted returns relative to benchmarks.
In this hands-on role, you will execute trades, oversee day-to-day risk management, and represent the firm in meetings with pension funds, foundations, and other stakeholders. Collaborating closely within a small, high-trust investment team, you will contribute to weekly discussions, cross-asset allocation decisions, and the continued refinement of the firm’s disciplined investment process.
What Sets You Apart
You are an experienced fixed-income investor with 3–7+ years of buy-side experience in an asset management, insurance, or pension environment. You are either registered or eligible for registration as a Portfolio Manager – Advising Representative with the OSC, with the CFA designation strongly preferred. You bring proven experience in credit analysis, curve positioning, and hands-on trade execution, along with advanced Excel modelling skills and working knowledge of Bloomberg and PC Bond.
You are also a confident communicator who can present to boards, committees, and institutional clients while demonstrating humility, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity in a team setting.
What You Can Expect
This is a rare opportunity to step into the leadership of a large, high-profile fixed-income mandate within a boutique environment where your contributions are highly visible. Among a competitive base salary, generous performance & company-based bonuses, and comprehensive benefits, the role offers an opportunity to step into a position where you will receive direct training and mentorship from a professional who is retiring.
The position is based in Mississauga, with a flexible hybrid schedule of 3–4 days in the office per week. You will benefit from working in a collegial, low-bureaucracy culture that values autonomy, professionalism, and cross-team collaboration.
Compensation
The expected base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $175,000, with flexibility for exceptional candidates. The position is eligible for a target bonus of approximately 50%, along with a competitive benefits program and retirement savings support.
Additional Information
This posting represents a confidential search. All inquiries and discussions will be handled with discretion. Artificial intelligence–based tools are not used in the screening or selection process for this role.
Take the Next Step
If you are prepared to take on a succession role where you can influence investment outcomes, build lasting client relationships, and step into the leadership of a significant fixed-income portfolio, and you meet the qualifications and are motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, we would be pleased to arrange a confidential conversation. Please submit your application referencing Fixed Income Portfolio Manager in the subject line.
