Position Summary

The Director, Finance Systems is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of the O&M Business Unit’s Finance Technology ecosystem. This includes full ownership of People Soft Finance, Essbase, FDW and associated financial applications.

This role acts as the primary liaison between IT, Financial Operations, and Enterprise Technology teams to evaluate evolving business requirements, identify and recommend system improvements, and ensure delivery of stable, scalable, secure, and compliant finance platforms that advance business outcomes. This leader will develop long term modernization strategies, manage a high performing team, guide enterprise integration and effectiveness, and partner closely with Finance leaders to support planning, reporting, and transaction processes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Define and execute multi‑year strategy and vision for O&M Finance Systems to support operational excellence, financial accuracy, and enterprise transformation goals.

  • Translate organizational strategies into actionable roadmaps for People Soft, Essbase, and related systems.

  • Influence enterprise stakeholders and represent O&M needs in governance, prioritization, and technology investment forums.

  • Finance Systems Ownership and Solution Delivery

  • Own the service delivery and operational performance of core Finance applications

  • Own day to day operations, stability, performance, and optimization of People Soft Financials, Essbase, and integrated applications.

  • Ensure compliance with SOX, audit readiness, financial controls, cybersecurity requirements, and McKesson Technology policies.

  • Lead system enhancements, upgrades, patching cycles, integrations, data quality improvements, automation initiatives and issue resolution.

  • Oversee project intake, prioritization, resource allocation, vendor performance and execution quality across Finance systems initiatives.

  • Manage and optimize Financial Allocations, budgeting workflows, period end close activities, and accounting/reporting processes.

  • Define and enforce application governance, master data standards, and process controls

  • Serve as the primary liaison across cross‑functional teams including Enterprise Applications, Data Engineering, Analytics, Security, McKesson Technology, and Infrastructure.

  • Operational Excellence and Service Management

  • Ensure financial‑cycle stability by monitoring service health across close, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes

  • Oversee incident, escalation, and change‑management processes with a focus on minimizing disruption to accounting operations, close deadlines, and regulatory reporting

  • Enforce role‑based access governance aligned to SOX, ensuring proper segregation of duties and secure handling of financially sensitive data.

  • Strengthen business continuity and disaster recovery for Finance Systems, ensuring the organization can meet financial close and reporting obligations in all scenarios.

  • Establish SLAs, performance metrics, and KPIs for system health, user satisfaction, and financial process reliability.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Act as primary technology partner to Finance, including Accounting, FP&A, Corporate Reporting, Revenue Cycle Management and O&M Finance leadership.

  • Communicate system changes, risks, and impacts to executive and operational stakeholders, consistent with Business Systems responsibilities for preparing communications and presentations around system changes.

  • Support key financial cycles (close, planning, reporting) through proactive system readiness and timely issue management.

  • People Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Lead, coach and grow a high-performing team of analysts, developers, and subject matter experts, consistent with expectations for Director‑level leadership.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and customer‑centric service delivery.

  • Manage vendors and service providers to ensure delivery of high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions.

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 12+ years of professional experience and 4+ years of management experience.
