Build Our Forecasting Function from Scratch
Remote (Ireland or UK) | Reporting to the Group CFO | Yomali
Why This Role ExistsYomali has never had a formal forecasting capability, and that's about to change. We're a privately-held group of e-commerce businesses (Help Grid, Buy Goods, Max Web and more). Today our leaders don't have a consistent way to forecast revenue and costs, understand variance, or be held accountable to their numbers. We're building that capability from the ground up. The forecasting model will be built in Excel and loaded into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for reporting against actuals.
We need someone who has built models like this before to lead the build. This isn't a role where you inherit a working model and keep the lights on. You're building the model.
- Design, build and maintain our driver-based Excel forecasting and budgeting model, starting with Help Grid, Buy Goods and Max Web
- Load the outputs into Business Central and report forecast versus actual
- Own the accountability loop, making sure business leaders understand, use and stand behind their forecasts
- Build visibility of the cost base down to supplier level, working with our Financial Controllers
- Run what-if and scenario analysis for leadership
- Evolve the model as we grow, so it scales and can move into a dedicated planning platform when the time is right
You’ll work directly with our Group CFO, Financial Controllers and business unit leaders, with real autonomy and real visibility into how the business runs.
What Success Looks LikeFirst 3–6 months:
The foundations of the Excel forecasting model are in place. The revenue and cost drivers for Help Grid, Buy Goods and Max Web are built and tested, and the outputs are loading into Business Central.
12 months: A full 12-month budget is built and loaded. There's a regular rhythm of forecast‑versus‑actual conversations between Finance and business leaders, who use Finance's numbers in their own performance reviews. Supplier‑level spend reporting is live.
What We're Looking For- Substantial hands‑on FP&A experience , including having personally built a driver-based forecasting or budgeting model in Excel from scratch, not just maintained or administered one that already existed
- Advanced Excel financial modelling: scenario analysis, clear model structure and integrity checks. You should also be comfortable reviewing and improving a model someone else built
- Comfortable owning forecast‑vs‑actual conversations directly with business stakeholders, including pushing back when the numbers don't add up
- Able to explain the numbers clearly to non‑finance leaders
- Genuinely energised by complex "what‑if" modelling, not just running the base forecast but exploring what a new market or acquisition could look like
- Able to work autonomously, without a team beneath you or an established playbook to follow
- Experience loading budget or forecast data into an ERP and reporting against actuals is helpful. Business Central or NAV is a plus, but any ERP (Oracle, SAP, Sage, Workday, Net Suite or similar) is fine
- Experience with a dedicated planning platform (Anaplan, Vena, Planful, Adaptive, Datarails, Pigment or similar) is a bonus, not a requirement
- Professional finance qualification (CIMA/CGMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) preferred, not required
You’ll do well here if you’re the kind of person who gets excited by ambiguity rather than overwhelmed by it. There's no existing FP&A team to lean on. You'll be it, with our CFO backing you up. You'll need to be strategic about sequencing (one business at a time, not all three at once) and comfortable holding your ground with senior stakeholders who are new to forecasting.
