Business Analyst – Trade Data / Trading Systems
Job Type - Contract
Location - Toronto, Canada
Work Type - Hybrid
OverviewWe are looking for a Business Analyst to support a trade-data-focused environment spanning two platforms: a vendor-driven surveillance / trade-data system and a newer in-house platform built on Databricks / Data Works. The successful candidate will work with large volumes of trade data coming from multiple OMS / EMS and related sources, helping analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and normalize that data into a consistent structure for downstream use.
This role will suit someone with strong experience in data analysis within trading environments, particularly where data arrives in multiple formats and requires business and technical interpretation. The BA will work closely with developers, PMs, business users, support teams, and in some instances front-office stakeholders, depending on the flow being onboarded.
Responsibilities- Analyze and interpret trade data from multiple internal systems and source formats.
- Normalize inconsistent data values/structures into a consistent end-state format.
- Work with FIX messaging and related trade flow data to understand what is correct, incorrect, or incomplete.
- Query and investigate data using SQL.
- Support onboarding/troubleshooting across multiple trade-data-related platforms.
- Liaise with technical and business stakeholders to validate requirements, challenge assumptions where needed, and help ensure data is structured correctly.
- Strong Business Analyst experience in a trading / capital markets environment.
- Strong data analysis and data investigation capability.
- Robust understanding of equities trading, including order flow and trade lifecycle concepts.
- Good understanding of FIX messaging and how messages flow through the trade lifecycle.
- Solid knowledge of OMS / EMS and trading concepts such as limit orders, short sells, fills, modifications, cancellations, and busts.
- SQL skills to at least an intermediate level, with the ability to interrogate data independently.
- Confidence dealing with direct stakeholders and the ability to challenge requests where appropriate.
- Experience with Databricks / Data Works.
- Exposure to data formats such as CSV, Excel, and JSON.
- Knowledge of equity options and some exposure to futures.
- Broader understanding of settlement / post-trade processes.
