Reports to: Finance Manager
Salary Range: $70,000 to $75,000 CAD
Our Blue Streak-Hygrade Motor Products division allows SMP to lead the way in the Canadian automotive aftermarket where we supply the highest quality engine management and temperature control product for domestic and import vehicles. We have marketed our lines in Canada under the Blue Streak name since the late 1940s.
Job Summary
The Inventory Control Coordinator is responsible for overseeing inventory accuracy, stock analysis, reporting, and control processes. This role involves maintaining inventory integrity, analyzing stock levels and discrepancies, and generating timely reports to support operational decisions. The coordinator develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), leverages advanced Excel and data analysis tools, and collaborates cross-functionally to provide accurate insights and improve overall inventory management efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Control
Oversee daily inventory operations, including cycle counts, adjustments, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis of discrepancies
Ensure inventory accuracy across the warehouse
Develop and enforce inventory control procedures, standards, and best practices
Monitor stock levels, safety stock, and reorder thresholds to prevent shortages or overstocking
Coordinate with all departments especially with warehouse teams to maintain optimal material flow
Data Analysis & Reporting
Use advanced functions (excel, pivot tables, Queries, formulas, dashboards) and modern analysis tools to evaluate and interpret inventory data
Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly inventory reports with actionable insights
Produce and maintain KPIs such as:
Inventory Accuracy
Cycle Count Performance
Inventory Turnover and Days on Hand
Slow/Obsolete Inventory Metrics
Stockout and Excess Inventory Rates
Identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
Systems & Tools
Maintain and optimize use of ERP or inventory management systems
Support implementation of new tools or enhancements to improve visibility, accuracy, and efficiency
Ensure correct system transactions and data flow for receipts, transfers, and shipments
Lead and mentor inventory control staff; ensure training and adherence to processes
Work cross-functionally with warehouse, finance, and other departments
Support internal and external audits with required documentation and analysis
Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision making
Work with the customs coordinator to ensure continuity in their absence
Handle special projects or additional duties as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3-5 years of experience in inventory control, supply chain, or warehouse operations
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, Power Query, dashboard building)
Familiarity with ERP systems
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Ability to manage priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment
Assets
Knowledge of lean methodologies or continuous improvement practices
Experience writing and improving SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
Strong understanding of supply chain and inventory best practices
