Our client is looking for a skilled Davenport Screw Machine Operator to run, set up, and maintain Davenport multi‑spindle screw machines in a high‑volume production environment. This role focuses on keeping machines running safely, producing quality parts, and making adjustments to maintain performance.
Key Responsibilities- Machine Setup — Set up Davenport screw machines for recent and repeat jobs, install tooling, adjust cams/gears, and complete first‑piece checks.
- Machine Operation — Run machines during production, monitor performance, and make adjustments to timing, feeds, and tooling as needed.
- Troubleshooting — Identify and correct issues such as tool wear, chatter, misfeeds, or dimensional variation.
- Basic Maintenance — Perform routine maintenance, replace worn components, and support larger repairs when needed.
- Quality Checks — Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, and comparators to verify part quality and maintain tolerances.
- Safety & 5S — Follow all safety procedures, maintain machine guarding, and keep the work area clean and organized.
- Set up and adjust Davenport multi‑spindle machines for production runs.
- Operate machines and monitor tooling wear, making real‑time adjustments.
- Work with quality inspectors and other operators to resolve production issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance to maximize machine uptime.
- Inspect parts using precision measurement tools.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Support continuous improvement and production goals.
- 3–5+ years operating Davenport multi‑spindle screw machines or similar cam‑driven equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in machine setup, timing, cams, and gears.
- Ability to diagnose and fix common mechanical issues (spindles, slides, bearings).
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Ability to read blueprints and follow work instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with other multi‑spindle machines (Acme‑Gridley, New Britain, Brown & Sharpe).
- Background in automotive, aerospace, or precision machining.
- Experience modifying or grinding form tools.
- Familiarity with older cam‑driven systems and modernization upgrades.
- Technical training in machining or mechanical repair.
- Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, oil, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- May require overtime or off‑shift work during maintenance or production demand.
