Opportunity The position of Product Scientist 1 is responsible for the creation and execution of new and modified products in the Research, Development & Technology department. Activities include rapid prototyping, new product development, line extensions, product reformulation, cost reduction, ingredient evaluation, and investigation of food manufacturing processes. The role involves close collaboration with marketing, sales, operations, quality assurance, purchasing, and other stakeholders to bring new products and modifications to life.
Compensation 59,000 – 87,000 CAD base pay annually, plus annual short‑term incentive.
Responsibilities Lead product development through all stages of the lifecycle, from concept to bench‑top prototype and full‑scale manufacturing.
Support production start‑up during launch of new or modified products, including plant floor work in refrigerated environments with raw meats.
Develop formulations, standard operating procedures and Bills of Materials that support new innovations, ensuring accurate costing and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive project progress.
Participate in sensory evaluation panels, using proteins such as pork, chicken, turkey, beef, and alternate proteins.
Maintain specification documentation for raw ingredients, formulations and final products to support compliance and company standards.
Gather and interpret microbiological, chemical and manufacturing data to drive decision‑making.
Prepare and present technical reports or results, in written and oral form, to peers, cross‑functional stakeholders and management.
Assist with identifying and developing technology improvements and cost savings opportunities.
Independently manage product development projects, developing workplans, prioritizing tasks and maintaining project files.
Ensure confidentiality of project data and eligibility for tax‑credit claims.
Qualifications Post‑secondary education in Food Science, Nutrition or a related science discipline.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Product Development, Operations or Quality Control.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365; experience with SAP is an asset.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate cross‑functionally.
Excellent analytical problem‑solving skills.
Strong initiative and ability to work independently.
Comfort working with ambiguity.
Ability to work in an office environment and on manufacturing sites.
