Industrial Electrician – Amhil North America

Location:

Mississauga, ON

Shifts:

8 hour (days); subject to change to accommodate business needs including shift work and weekends.

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and automated equipment in a high‑speed manufacturing environment. This role supports production uptime by diagnosing electrical and control system issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with electrical and safety standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Repair electrical issues on production equipment, including thermoforming machines, extruders, and auxiliary systems.
  • Diagnose faults in PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, and control panels (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens).
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and document work using CMMS and Poka.
  • Install, test, and maintain electrical components such as motors, relays, contractors, VFDs, and wiring systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Support equipment changeovers and ensure electrical systems are properly configured and operational.
  • Perform lockout/tagout procedures and verify zero-energy states before work.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of downtime and recurring electrical failures.
  • Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Support commissioning and testing of new equipment and modifications.
  • Stop production if there is a risk to safety or equipment integrity.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately (CMMS, logs, reports).
  • Conduct all work safely and wear prescribed PPE at all times.
  • Identify electrical hazards and report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of work areas and electrical panels.
  • Ensure all work complies with ESA, CSA, and company safety standards.
  • Collaborate with mechanics, production, and engineering teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Work shifts, overtime, and on-call as needed.
Qualifications
  • Outstanding attitude.
  • Valid Ontario Industrial Electrician (442A) License.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably plastics or other high‑speed production settings.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, automation, and electrical safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting PLCs (Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens preferred), with working knowledge of VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Experience using CMMS systems and digital maintenance tools for maintenance tracking and reporting.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and maintenance management systems.
  • Robust troubleshooting, analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced production environment while managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Effective time‑management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new systems, equipment, and technologies.
  • Professional, reliable, and safety‑focused mindset.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Able to lift 35–40 lbs on a regular basis and stand for long periods of time.
