The Sr. Technologist will have deep rooted technical knowledge in applying a multitude of functional systems within in food and beverage applications. Furthermore, the Sr. Technologist will have a solid food science and chemistry acumen and understanding of food system/chemistry interactions in food matrices. This role requires a strong foundation in product development and must have a creative mindset to find novel applications for functional systems.

The Sr. Technologist will work cross functionally with creation, analytical chemistry, category to find niche areas of play for the Functional Systems BU. The position will be located in Mississauga Ontario at our Giraffe Foods R&D center.

• A. Lead the applications function within the Functional Systems BU. This work entails working creatively across a gambit of applications ( Food and Beverage) and assessing technologies within these applications.
• B. Design applications experiment in conjunction with food and flavor chemist to assess the stability of functional systems within a variety of applications.
• C. Be able to design new outside-the-box applications for a variety of functional systems. Understand limitations of health-related ingredients (stability, usage, level to give claim…etc).
• D. Establish expert knowledge in food science and product development. Know the technical limitations of commercializing functional systems for food and beverage.
• E. Work as technical liaison between flavor applications and commercial development within our Giraffe Food manufacturing sites.
• F. Understanding and knowledge of taste modulation tools and their use in a multitude of applications.

• A. Act as an applications leader by being hands on, collaborative, and have strong sense of urgency.
• B. Trains Business Unit Applications personnel in the correct application techniques for new technologies.

• A strong technical background is required with a minimum of a B.S. or M.S. degree in Food Chemistry.
• 5-7 years of product development or applications experience with knowledge of the US food or beverage processing industry.
• This position requires a detailed oriented individual with the ability to resolve complex technical problems related to flavor/ingredient interactions within food matricies.
• Ideal candidate must have some project management training and the ability to master our project management system in SAP.
• Willingness to travel (~30%).
• Strong Food and Flavor application knowledge.
• Strong oral and written English communications skills are essential.
• Ability to troubleshoot in a production or pilot plan environment.
• Knowledge of SAP.
• Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint for reporting.
• Formal long-term project management training.
