The goal is to support nurses’ transition into practice and promote workforce integration.

NGG Initiative Objectives

How THP Supports Participants
  • Provide the new nurse with general orientation to the organization, ensuring familiarisation with policies and standards
  • Ensure that a mentor is available and a transition‑to‑practice leader oversees implementation and progress tracking
  • Develop a learning plan with the nurse and mentor, incorporating varied teaching strategies and delivery methods aligned with the unit of employment
Eligibility & Qualifications
  • Participation is open to nurses within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO); the nurse must be registered in the Temporary or General Class before commencing the NGG transition.
  • Canadian‑educated nurses:
    • Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a diploma from a practical nursing program in Canada
    • Matched with an employer on the NGG portal within 12 months of registration with the CNO
    • Committed to accepting full‑time employment or the equivalent after completing the NGG transition
  • Internationally‑educated nurses (IENs):
    • Completed nursing education outside Canada
    • Matched with an employer on the NGG portal within 12 months of registration with the CNO
    • Committed to accepting full‑time employment or the equivalent after completing the NGG transition
