Job Overview
The inpatient medicine & ICU program at THP consists of more than 350 beds across the CVH & MH and is staffed by large interprofessional teams that support the care of complex medicine patients within the Mississauga Halton LHIN. We offer first‑rate care in an innovative environment that supports the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of our patients.

Reporting to a Clinical Manager, the ideal candidate will be focused on providing excellent patient‑centered care in a dynamic environment where they will be given the opportunity to deliver care with compassion, excellence and courage.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent (e.g., certificate RPN with added courses in medication administration, phlebotomy, and health assessment)

Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meets the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO.

Able to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO requirements

Current Basic Life Support certification

If working in an area with telemetry, successful candidates will obtain formal certification within six months of hire

Medication Administration Certificate and experience with administration of medication within the last year required

Demonstrated knowledge, experience and the ability to care for acute patients with the following care needs: initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, administration of medication above and below the drip chamber, patient controlled analgesia, enteral feeds, TPN, transfusion of blood products, central venous access devices, blood glucose monitoring, naso‑gastric tubes, wound management skills, skin care, foot care, routine infection control practices, normal and abnormal blood values

Computer skills including typing, sending and receiving email and working with Microsoft applications such as Word

A positive work and attendance record is essential

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years acute care medical/surgical experience preferred

Physical assessment course

Experience working with acute care medicine patient populations, including respirology, nephrology, cardiology patients requiring telemetry monitoring and geriatric patients

Experience in providing and delivering patients and families with educational teaching

Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem‑solving skills

Demonstrates patient and family‑centred care values

Evidence of ongoing professional development

Experience and knowledge with Meditech and/or Sunrise Clinical Manager clinical application systems

Job Responsibilities

Provision of nursing care for patients within an interprofessional environment, including assessment, treatment, teaching and education

Teaching and coaching patients and families

Commitment to a healthy, safe and respectful workplace

Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policies and procedures; professional regulatory standards; and best practices within the nursing profession

Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development (including annual training/education as indicated)
