Clinical Extern – Nursing (RN, RPN, IEN)

Site(s)Available to work across all THP sites (Mississauga Hospital, Credit Valley Hospital, Queensway Health Centre, Reactivation Care Centres)
OverviewClinical Externs will work as an unregulated health care provider (UCP) under the supervision of a registered health professional. The role provides an autonomous yet supervised environment to develop clinical skills, knowledge and confidence, preparing for a registered role upon completion of studies.
Key Qualifications- Enrolled in a Nursing Extern program, or any year of study of a CNO‑approved BScN/BN or PN program (preference for years 3 and 4).
- Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) who have initiated registration with the CNO, received a CNO Letter of Direction and meet one of the following conditions:
- currently in any year of a CNO‑approved program (e.g., BScN‑IEN, PN‑IEN).
- completing a micro‑credential plan that meets CNO registration requirements.
- completed educational requirements and awaiting registration exam.
- Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing.
- Evidence of successful learning experiences during recent clinical placements.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Provide patient care under the supervision of a regulated health professional, consistent with organizational policies and professional standards.
- Assist with ambulation, toileting, bathing, feeding and other care activities to meet patients’ personal needs and comfort.
- Request assistance and alert team members when changes or concerns about a patient’s condition arise.
- Report to work on all assigned shifts or notify management of absence before the shift.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Meet satisfactory performance and attendance expectations.
