Job Description
Allied Universal seeks a dedicated and reliable Security Guard to work at a homeless shelter. Prior experience in a shelter is an asset. The role is crucial to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have a strong presence, the ability to handle stressful situations, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure environment.
Responsibilities
Monitor facility access, ensuring authorized entry only, check identification, and maintain logs.
Address and de‑escalate disputes or conflicts between residents, guests, or staff.
Respond promptly to emergencies (medical, fire, security) and assist in evacuations.
Conduct regular patrols to ensure safety and prevent incidents of theft, vandalism, or other criminal activity. Secure doors and windows after hours.
Document incidents, violations, or disturbances and complete incident reports in a clear and timely manner.
Provide a visible and authoritative presence to deter negative behavior and maintain a calm atmosphere.
Collaborate with shelter management and staff to implement security protocols and support residents in need.
Requirements
1–2 years of security experience, preferably in a shelter.
Valid Ontario Security License.
At least 18 years of age.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Eligibility to work in Canada for up to 40 hours a week.
First Aid and CPR certification.
