About the Role:
Reporting to the Guthrie Therapeutic Community (GTC) Program Manager, the Outreach Worker will play a vital role in reaching out to individuals in need of addiction and recovery. They will actively engage in pre-release planning, community support, and outreach efforts.
Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Relevant education (Criminology, Corrections, Social Work) or experience working with the reintegration of men with addictions and/or mental health issues.
- Minimum of 2 years of “lived” experience around addiction and recovery is preferred.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly in areas related to:
Addiction recovery, Mental health support or Reintegration services for individuals with addictions. - Prior involvement in outreach programs, community engagement, or support services would be an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Someone with a passion for and interest in working with vulnerable populations.
- Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check.
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Class 5 driver’s license.
- Strong knowledge of addiction issues, recovery processes, and related challenges.
- Ability to connect with individuals seeking help, using personal experience to foster trust and understanding.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records.
- Competence in using computers and software (e.g., Excel, Word) for documentation and communication.
- Community Engagement:
Ability to build relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance support for individuals in recovery. - Crisis Intervention:
Understanding of authority in supervision and capability to intervene effectively during crises. - Cultural Competence:
Ability to work sensitively and effectively with diverse populations, respecting different backgrounds and experiences. - Collaboration:
Strong teamwork skills to work with various organizations and support groups in the addiction recovery field. - Knowledge of Resources:
Awareness of community resources and support networks available for individuals struggling with addiction.
