Community Shelter Worker in Ontario

Serve families and individuals facing homelessness as a Community Shelter Worker with SHIP in Ontario. Provide vital support through housing strategies and compassionate engagement with clients.

In this role, you report to the Community Shelter Supervisor and deliver front-line support to diverse clients. With a focus on housing-first principles, you’ll assist clients in navigating their shelter stay, engage them in housing conversations, and help develop Individualized Housing Plans. Your experience will be key in transforming lives and ensuring access to suitable housing options.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver welcome packages and maintain shelter files

• Support clients experiencing poverty or homelessness

• Facilitate housing-focused conversations using motivational interviewing

• Develop individualized housing plans for longer-term guests

• Administer naloxone in emergency situations

Requirements:

• Post-secondary degree in Social Work or related fields

• Minimum 1 year experience in homeless support

• Strong communication and crisis management skills

• Proficiency in MS Office applications

• Valid driver’s license and certification in First Aid & CPR
