Position Summary

Lead Brokerage Dispatcher – This role oversees daily freight brokerage operations, leads a team of dispatchers and carrier procurement specialists, and ensures the efficient, compliant, and profitable movement of customer freight. The candidate will develop operational strategies, strengthen carrier partnerships, optimize margins, and ensure service excellence across all transportation modes.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of brokerage dispatchers and carrier procurement specialists.
  • Establish and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly performance objectives.
  • Drive accountability through KPI management, performance reviews, and operational reporting.
  • Conduct regular training sessions focused on carrier negotiations, market intelligence, customer service, and conflict resolution.
  • Manage workload distribution, scheduling, and escalation procedures.
  • Provide leadership support during critical service disruptions and after‑hours operational emergencies.
  • Foster a high‑performance culture focused on teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
Freight Brokerage Operations
  • Oversee the successful execution of customer freight movements across North America.
  • Ensure efficient carrier sourcing, load coverage, and freight execution.
  • Monitor load status, service performance, and customer commitments throughout the transportation lifecycle.
  • Coordinate closely with Account Managers and Sales teams to align carrier capacity with customer demand.
  • Ensure operational excellence across all freight modes, including:
    • Full Truckload (FTL)
    • Less‑than‑Truckload (LTL)
    • Intermodal
    • Specialized Freight
    • Expedited Freight
Operational Strategy & Margin Optimization
  • Analyze freight market conditions, capacity trends, and seasonal fluctuations to support pricing and procurement decisions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize load profitability and gross margin performance.
  • Monitor spot market rates and contractual pricing opportunities.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
  • Optimize utilization of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and brokerage technology platforms.
  • Collaborate with leadership to support growth initiatives and revenue targets.
Carrier Development & Compliance
  • Develop and maintain a high‑performing carrier network.
  • Build strategic relationships with preferred and dedicated carriers.
  • Manage carrier service‑level performance and compliance standards.
  • Oversee carrier onboarding, qualification, and vetting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • FMCSA regulations
    • DOT requirements
    • Safety Management System (SMS) standards
    • Insurance verification requirements
  • Act as the senior escalation point for:
    • Carrier disputes
    • Service failures
    • Freight claims
    • High‑value shipment issues
Reporting & Analytics
  • Track and analyze key operational metrics, including:
    • Gross Margin per Load
    • Load Volume
    • Carrier Retention
    • On‑Time Pickup Performance
    • On‑Time Delivery Performance
    • Tracking Compliance
    • Service Failure Metrics
  • Prepare operational reports and performance dashboards for leadership review.
  • Utilize data‑driven insights to forecast capacity requirements and support strategic decision‑making.
  • Monitor accessorial expenses including detention, layovers, and recoverable charges.
  • Develop strategies to reduce operational costs while improving customer satisfaction.
Qualifications Required Experience
  • Minimum 4 years of freight brokerage, transportation, or 3PL experience.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience within a brokerage workplace.
  • Proven track record of managing freight operations and carrier relationships.
  • Experience handling high‑volume freight transactions and customer accounts.
