Position:
Shipping and Receiving Supervisor
Reporting to the Plant Operations Manager, this hands‑on role manages, prepares, maximizes, and tracks all plant inventory, shipping and receiving functions. The Supervisor influences company revenue and profitability through shipping schedules, shipping density, on‑time departures, accurate paperwork, transport of dangerous goods, inventory control, and triage of received material.

Responsibilities

Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.

Coordinate with the production planner, production supervisors, and other personnel to meet plant objectives.

Foster positive working relationships and proactively respond to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints, and other employee‑relations matters.

Plan, organize, and supervise the shipping function, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of finished goods.

Prepare bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents; create and hand off complete and appropriate documentation to all parties including drivers.

Create and reconcile all receiving and delivery transactions in SAP and all required documents associated with each shipment to required standards.

Supervise, train, and schedule shipping/receiving employees; provide guidance and training in SOPs.

Ensure compliance with plant health, safety, quality, and environmental standards; enforce proper methods and SOPs.

Conduct inventory counts as required, ensuring inventory accuracy and security.

Supervise, train, and review performance of shipping/receiving and inventory staff (approx. 10 people).

Ensure compliance with regulatory programs and customers regarding classification of incoming material, standard tare weights, scale calibration, verification, use of proper codes, and ERP tracking.

Recommend measures to improve quality of service, increase departmental efficiency, and enhance equipment performance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum 5 years’ experience in Shipping & Receiving and inventory control, ideally in a distribution center and/or manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years supervising a team.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with frequent deadlines, adapting efficiently to changing inputs.

Strong team player working in unison with other operations team members to achieve corporate goals.

Focus on solutions to capitalize on opportunities rather than dwelling on problems.

Experience using SAP and MS Office.

Highly detail‑oriented and ensures accuracy of data and shipping paperwork.

Demonstrated aptitude and ability to understand and comply with Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and documentation regulations for interprovincial and international shipments.

Self‑starter with effective planning and organizing skills to manage priorities and complete tasks efficiently and effectively.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and communicate clearly (verbal and written).
