Superintendent - Heavy Civil Infrastructure

We are adding Superintendents to our Central division of Kiewit to support our growing Infrastructure project portfolio around the country. As a Superintendent, you will lead and supervise all aspects of self‑performed construction for a variety of infrastructure projects that could include site‑prep for major highway, bridge, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater, and power projects.

Position Overview

In this role, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform daily inspections of work for Safety, Quality, and Productivity.
  • Assure proper planning and communication is happening for all operations.
  • Identify and solve problems that arise.
  • Establish budgetary guidelines for the job and ensure that cost control measures are being followed.
  • Provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel.
  • Establish quality standards and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are met.
  • Develop and manage job schedules (e.g., three‑week, 90‑day, man‑loading), coordinate work with other crafts, departments, contractors and suppliers.
District Overview

Kiewit’s Central District specializes in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. We self‑perform work such as mass grading, drainage, paving, utility, and more.

Location

This position will be based out of our Tennessee/Kentucky region at our district office in Brentwood, Tennessee, near Nashville. Projects may include working in TN, KY, NE, KS, and MS. Per diem is offered on site, and relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the crew(s) and craft workers in the application of all projects. Set performance goals, deadlines and work plans.
  • Utilize equipment, material, and labor to maximize production and minimize costs.
  • Coordinate and interface effectively with superintendents, project engineers, field engineers and foreman to ensure smooth workflow and schedule adherence.
  • Resolve employee conflicts, grievances, and scheduling difficulties, informing management as appropriate.
  • Assist in schedule planning, determining craft labor needs, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
  • Manage material stock and orders; oversee design change process and quality control.
  • Ensure compliance with project rules, procedures and programs, including safety, attendance, and non‑harassment policies.
  • Provide project communication, coordination and follow‑up to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Serve as project representative at kick‑off meetings, job walks, reviews, and other correspondence.
  • Coordinate training and compliance measures to ensure adherence to project procedures.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with client to adjust to client needs and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience in the construction industry, with at least 5+ years in a supervisory/superintendent role overseeing self‑performed construction. High school degree/GED is required.
  • Broad background with self‑perform construction on heavy infrastructure projects (major highway, bridge, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater).
  • Experience supervising site prep, mass grading/excavation, cut and fill, drainage, paving, underground piping and utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete form work, asphalt paving, and related activities.
  • Direct project oversight on EPC related projects where the work was self‑performed by your current employer.
  • Strong safety and quality commitment with a proven record.
  • Competent in project control and administration software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
  • Advanced knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, engineering drawings, and related documents.
  • Ability to efficiently supervise and evaluate craft performance; experience training and developing crew.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
