HMS Science Position

Title:

Teacher MDE Code (pre‑K through 12th grade) – any certified employee employed with the school district. The teacher should be properly endorsed in the specific area of instruction according to the assignment of employment. MDE Course Code should match the teaching area.

• Proper valid Mississippi Teaching License as required by MDE and district with a 188 – General Science (7‑12) Endorsement or other acceptable endorsement (181, 182, 185, 187, 189, or 904).
• Bachelor's degree or higher.

Job Goal:
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

• Meet and instruct assigned class in the locations and at the times designated.
• Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity and interests of the students.
• Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Diagnose learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required by policy and law.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the supervisor may from time to time assign.

Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy and MDE guidelines.
