Position: Registered Nurse - Med Unit  PRN
Location: Winona

Job Summary

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical‑surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, nurse managers, and co‑workers about changes in a patient’s clinical condition, including diagnostic results and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment, and performs general nursing duties in all departments under adequate supervision.

Job Responsibilities
  • General knowledge of medications and correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Follow the five medication rights to reduce potential medication errors.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities tailored to the standard of care for the patient’s age.
  • Conduct head‑to‑toe assessments and reassessments on all patients, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
  • Assess and reassess pain, use appropriate pain‑management techniques, and educate patient and family.
  • Provide all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces medical/health‑care errors.
  • Revise the plan of care based on patient response to treatment and evaluate its effectiveness daily.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assess its effectiveness, involving family as appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately with nurse manager, co‑workers, and physicians.
  • Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Provide age‑appropriate care for pediatric, geriatric, and general populations.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Remain flexible, organized, and functional under stressful situations.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
  • Act as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development over the lifespan to deliver age‑appropriate care.
  • Interpret patient data to identify age‑specific needs and deliver appropriate care.
  • Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in care planning.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff within and outside the department.
  • Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identify and address psychosocial needs; coordinate with Social Services/Discharge Planner for in‑hospital and post‑discharge needs.
  • Operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care performed by subordinates.
  • Use Chart Access to complete required documentation of patient care activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the department supervisor or administration.
Requirements Education/Licensure Requirement
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current state license as a registered nurse.
  • Current BLS Healthcare certification.
  • ACLS certification desired.
Physical Requirements
  • Good physical and mental health and stamina.
  • Ability to lift and move moderate to heavy objects.
  • Tolerance of prolonged periods of walking and/or standing.
  • Occasional work‑related stress due to workload pressures.
  • Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, hazardous materials and waste, airborne disease.
  • Occasional repetitive exposure to unpleasant conditions: odors, dirt, grease/oil, noise, temperature fluctuations.
  • Basic dexterity—eye/hand coordination.
  • Ability to function properly under pressure, stress, and emergencies.
Experience Requirements
  • Successful completion of arrhythmia/EKG interpretation course.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
