Mortgage Field Services Inspector – Independent Contractor

FAR Inspections seeks highly motivated individuals to perform residential occupancy verifications on behalf of mortgage lenders. Experience with mortgage field inspections is not required, but the ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and work independently is essential.
What is an Occupancy Verification?A periodic update for mortgage lenders that verifies property occupancy, assesses general condition, and reports findings via a mobile application. Most inspections are exterior only; about 10% require interior photos after the property has become vacant.
Responsibilities- Complete most inspections in 5–6 minutes.
- Finish each inspection within 4 days of assignment.
- Report general property conditions and determine occupancy based on industry standards.
- Take 9+ photos of the property with brief comments.
- Complete a short form in the inspection app.
- Drive extended periods within assigned territory, making multiple stops during the day.
- Computer with internet access.
- Reliable vehicle (good gas mileage is a plus; you reimburse your own gas).
- Smartphone (Android or iPhone) compatible with the inspection app.
- Printer.
- Pass a standard background check using a valid driver’s license.
This is a 1099 position. Each inspection has a flat rate that varies by county and volume. You can earn the equivalent of $30–$40 per hour
. Depending on county, you may complete anywhere from 20 to 500 inspections per month, working 2–30 hours per week. Lower‑volume counties have higher rates, while higher‑volume counties have lower rates. There is no minimum number of inspections per month, but the work is consistent month to month.
No mileage reimbursement beyond the flat fee per inspection.
