OpportunityStantec is seeking a safety‑focused leader with construction field experience to oversee field engineering and construction quality control on a mine remediation project near Spokane, Washington. The role is onsite full‑time, with a minimum two‑year commitment and the possibility for extension. The engineer will direct a client‑focused team, plan construction activities, verify that construction meets design specifications, and manage field quality assurance and control.
Key Responsibilities- Support construction planning, communicate construction plans to contractors, identify problems, deficiencies, and design deviations, and develop corrective actions.
- Lead the field team, delegating tasks based on team members’ skills, and provide clear communication and attention to detail.
- Maintain a high‑functioning safety culture, track compliance with safe work practices, and adhere to company and client safety guidelines.
- Use field equipment (Trimble survey equipment, portable X‑ray fluorescence spectrometer, electronic density gauge) to conduct as‑built construction records and field engineering activities.
- Plan, coordinate, direct, and execute field engineering and quality control activities, including field observations, sample collection, and daily field reports.
- Review and respond to technical memoranda, RFIs, and as‑built reports for project construction activities.
- Provide supervision and direction for quality assurance activities such as sample collection, gradation analyses, material density testing, and surveying.
- Interact daily with client management, engineering staff, and field staff to plan and execute field engineering and CQA activities.
- Dynamic individual able to arrive on site on time in a rugged environment.
- Experience working daily with diverse team members and personalities.
- Capability to traverse steep slopes and drive/heavy equipment safely.
- Leadership in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings.
- Curiosity and creativity to contribute to a large, multi‑year reclamation project.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Detail‑oriented communication, data collection, and data review skills.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
- Ability to evaluate and revise designs for improved constructability with drafting support.
- Organized and capable of managing multiple tasks and deliverables simultaneously.
- Minimum of a B.S. in engineering or geology, or an associate’s degree with strong surveying skills or a professional surveying license.
- 8–12 years of relevant work experience including field work in environmental, civil, or geotechnical projects, with emphasis on construction planning, detailed design, site investigation, and technical communication.
- Preference for mine remediation/reclamation experience and survey proficiency.
- Exceptional technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional technical leadership and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in remote field sites.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and typical professional software packages (Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat).
- OSHA HAZWOPER and supervisor training required.
