Position: Laundry Assistant

OverviewThe primary purpose of this position is to perform the daily activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as directed by the Executive Director and/or the Director of Housekeeping. The goal is to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility and ensure an adequate supply of linen to meet residents’ needs.
Responsibilities- Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
- Maintain assigned work areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive condition.
- Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions; refer to manufacturer’s instructions when necessary.
- Dispose of personal protective equipment in accordance with sanitation procedures.
- Coordinate routine/terminal disinfectant procedures with nursing service.
- Ensure an adequate supply of laundry/linen to perform daily tasks is maintained in utility/janitorial closets.
- Assist others in lifting heavy equipment or supplies as directed or requested.
- Perform daily laundry tasks in accordance with established laundry procedures.
- Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and separate items requiring special stain removal or treatment.
- Sort and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., in accordance with established procedures.
- Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., to residents daily and/or as instructed.
- Distribute clean laundry during emergencies to designated areas as instructed.
- Clean floors (sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping) with appropriate caution signs.
- Discard waste into proper containers and relinetr.*
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and potentially hostile individuals within the facility.
- Ability to speak, write, and understand English sufficiently for effective communication with supervisors, employees, residents, and families.
